A man is in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident Sunday night in Pasco County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

James Elliott, 71, of Hudson was walking along the west paved shoulder of southbound U.S. 41, north of Twin Oaks Road, when he was hit by a vehicle traveling south about 10:50 p.m.

The vehicle, described only as a black SUV with front end damage, fled the scene, troopers said.

Elliott was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.

It was the second hit-and-run in Pasco in two days. Another pedestrian was killed while walking along the shoulder of U.S. 301, near Gould Road, in Dade City on Saturday night.

The FHP is asking anyone with information about either accident to call (813) 558-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
