In a sting along U.S. 19 late Friday and early Saturday, Pinellas County police agencies handed out 102 citations for speeding and 10 for driving under the influence. One Clearwater driver was caught going 91 mph in a 55 mph zone, and officers stopped a wrong-way driver. Law enforcement also cited eight people not wearing seat belts, 23 for moving violations, five for not having insurance and nine for drug possession.
The Clearwater police worked with Florida Highway Patrol, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Tarpon Springs Police Department, Largo Police Department and Pinellas Park Police Department. Each office was responsible for its jurisdiction on U.S. 19.
