Many people pray before meals. On Tuesday, the prayers came before the meals were delivered.

The Rev. Jon Roberts of Calvary Episcopal Church had folks bow their heads before Pinellas Sheriff's Office deputies and Indian Rocks firefighters loaded up Thanksgiving meals for families in need.

Deputies with the Community Policing Unit identified the families through their daily work in the community. In all, 51 families will benefit from the contributions this year.

The project is an annual event that partners the Sheriff's Office, the Indian Rocks Beach Rotary Club, Calvary Episcopal, Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue and Publix to help families who might not otherwise be able to afford a traditional holiday meal. The various organizations raised money to help with the purchase of the food.

The meals include a fully cooked turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry-orange relish, marshmallow delight, green beans, pumpkin pie, a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, a box of Little Debbie oatmeal creme cakes, a gallon of tea, and a half-gallon of cran-apple juice.

This is the 12th year for the event.
