LARGO — A deputy received an 80-hour suspension for resting during his shift, according to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office records.
Ronald Martin was assigned to a shift at the Pinellas County jail on Jan. 20 and spent about two hours "idling and/or loafing" while on duty, records show. He put his feet up on furniture and reclined in a chair with his eyes closed "in a manner consistent with sleeping."
Because of Martin's loafing, another deputy was called in to help with an uncooperative inmate. Martin later said he was away from his duties that day because of a headache. But according to records, he "never advised any supervisor about the problem."
He is expected to complete the 80-hour suspension within seven days in July and August.
