Plant City police investigating bicycle fatality

PLANT CITY — A bicyclist was killed Monday afternoon when a car drifted onto the paved shoulder of State Road 39 and struck him from behind, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities say they have not identified the male cyclist.

Troopers say he was traveling south on State Road 39 on the outside paved shoulder when a Toyota Corolla driven by 70-year-old Sherry Lee Brant of Plant City drifted from the outside lane and into the shoulder, colliding with the rear of the bicycle.

The cyclist landed on the pavement and died at the scene. Brant's car spun and came to rest on the outside grassy shoulder.

The crash, which occurred north of Trapnell Road, remains under investigation.

Country music has a dude problem.
