Police: Dade City man sexually abused 13-year-old for three years

Times staff

DADE CITY — Every week for the last three years, Dade City police say a local man sexually abused a 13-year-old girl.

For the first two years it was molestation, reports say. Then, when she turned 13, he started raping her.

The abuse continued until April.

Brian Lamont Thomas, 37, is charged with sexual battery of a minor. He was arrested Friday at 41353 Messick Road in Dade City after the girl reached out to police.

She hadn't come forward sooner, reports say, because Thomas threatened to beat her if she told anyone. Examinations by Child Protective Services showed the girl was sexually abused.

Thomas was being held in the Land O' Lakes jail Monday in lieu of $150,000 bail.
