Police say not enough evidence to prosecute George Zimmerman in domestic dispute

Lake Mary police on Thursday said they could not salvage video from an iPad George Zimmerman damaged during a dispute with his estranged wife and thus he will face no domestic violence charges.

Zimmerman, 30, was acquitted in July in the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, whom he shot in Sanford last year. That verdict set off protest marches across the country.

Zimmerman, his estranged wife, Shellie, and her father, David Dean, got into an altercation Sept. 9, at the home the couple formerly shared in Lake Mary. Shellie called 911, reporting that Zimmerman had threatened them with a gun.

Shellie Zimmerman had used her iPad to record the altercation, but George Zimmerman pried it open, tore it apart and threw it on the ground.

  4. Editorial: Pinellas Construction Licensing Board should be abolished

    Editorials

There are essentially two facts that need to be understood about the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board: It is a one-of-a-kind agency in Florida without any accountability to the state or the county. And to be kind, for years it was run haphazardly as an independent fiefdom, with missing financial records, …

The only way to restore faith and sanity to the process is to abolish the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board and follow the lead of Hillsborough and other counties that utilize building departments and law enforcement to regulate contractors.
