TAMPA — A 48-year-old man was arrested early Sunday after leading police on a chase through Tampa in a truck full of stolen items, authorities said.

Someone saw a blue 1988 Ford F-150 back into the front yard of 919 W Sligh Ave. about 6 a.m. and called police.

When police arrived, the driver, Almino Munoz, of 2802 N Tampania Ave., drove east on Sligh as several stolen items fell from the truck's bed, police said. Officers caught up to him near N Florida Avenue and W Elm Street, and Munoz fled on foot, police said.

Police said he tried to hide in a vacant house at 101 W Elm St. by breaking a window, but he couldn't get inside and was found hiding nearby.

Munoz stole the truck from a woman he knows, police said. He faces charges of grand theft, fleeing to elude, reckless driving, driving without a license, resisting arrest, two counts of burglary and violation of probation in connection with 2004 burglary and DUI arrests.

He was taken to jail. No bail was set.

This is Munoz's eighth arrest in Hillsborough County; other charges include petty theft, operating an unregistered vehicle, domestic violence battery, burglary, driving under the influence, aggravated battery and driving without a license.
