Power fails at St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport, Pinellas County Jail, Bayside High

LARGO — A school, airport and the Pinellas County Jail were briefly left in the dark Wednesday morning when the power suddenly went out.

Progress Energy crews responded to calls about an outage just after 9:45 a.m. in the area of Ulmerton Road and 49th Street, said spokesman Rob Sumner. Within half an hour, all power was restored.

Officials later determined the outage was caused when a truck crashed into a pole at 14405 49th St. N. A total of 398 customers were affected, Sumner said.

No incidents were reported in the affected area, which included the jail, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport and Bayside High School.
