Races, kite festival will affect beach traffic this weekend

Traffic along some of the Pinellas beaches could experience some backups and delays this weekend, with two big road races and a kite festival scheduled.

The St. Pete Beach Classic features a 10K and 5K race on Saturday morning, and then a half marathon on Sunday. Both days, traffic should be flowing again by 10:30 a.m.

On the opposite end of the beaches, the Clearwater Marathon and Halfathon races are scheduled for sunrise on Sunday. The Clearwater Memorial Causeway Bridge, the Sand Key Bridge and the Park Boulevard Bridge are all part of the route, so don't expect to use them or other roads being used for the routes until around 1 p.m. or later.

Right in the middle, the Treasure Island Kite Festival is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday behind the Thunderbird Beach Resort at 1070 Gulf Blvd. Parking should be at a premium both days, even if the weather will be a little chilly.
