Ruskin electrician pleads guilty in sexual assault case

RIVERVIEW — A Ruskin electrician admitted in court Monday that he violently attacked and tried to sexually assault a customer when she let him into her home to make repairs.

Adam Silva Millan, 52, a former employee of Big Daddy Electric in Land O' Lakes, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary of a dwelling with assault or battery, sexual battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment. Judge Mark Kiser will decide Millan's fate at an Aug. 10 hearing. He faces a possible sentence of life in prison.

Court records refer to Millan's victim only as "Jane Doe" and say she was alone in her home in Riverview's South Fork subdivision on May 18 when Millan and Big Daddy Electric owner Aaron Allen arrived to finish some repairs.

The two left the home to get "additional supplies," records said, and then Millan returned alone. He told the woman to flip a circuit breaker in her garage and then pulled out a knife as he put his arm around her neck and pulled her to the ground, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said

Millan dropped the knife and began beating the woman's face, breaking her nose and leaving large cuts on her knees, the sheriff's office said. He removed some of her clothing and tried to cover her mouth with electrical tape but fled before he could carry out an attempted assault, records said. He drove away when two neighbors heard the woman's screams and ran into the garage.

Millan already had a lengthy criminal record before the May 18 attack, state records show. He spent 10 to 20 years in prison after a 1998 manslaughter conviction in New York and moved to Florida a week after his release in 2008.

A 2012 parole violation for dealing in stolen property sent Millan back to New York for a three-month prison stay, but by last November he had completed all required check-in's with law enforcement.

A hearing is scheduled for August 15 in a negligence lawsuit the woman filed against Big Daddy Electric and owner Allen for hiring Millan despite his lengthy criminal record. The case is currently set for trial early next year, said Allen's lawyer, Peter Molinelli.
