TAMPA — Two people were killed and several others injured after six-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon along Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, police said.
According to Tampa police, Mohamed Saud Hanidan Su Al Toobi, 19, of Tampa, was driving an Infiniti G37 south on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard just before 5:30 p.m. The Infiniti swerved into the median, going over it and into oncoming traffic in the northbound lanes. It clipped the back of one vehicle, then hit two others, causing heavy damage as it continued into oncoming traffic.
"Three other vehicles were also damaged due to secondary incidents caused by the crash," Tampa police spokesman Steve Hegarty said. "All told, six vehicles were involved."
Al Toobi was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries. A passenger, who police have yet to identify pending next-of-kin notification, was in the front passenger seat of the Infiniti and died at the scene. One person suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and several others were treated for minor injuries.
The crash shutdown northbound lanes of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard for more than six hours Wednesday.
Police continue to investigate the crash, including what caused Al Toobi to swerve.
