TAMPA — Sewage discharged to Trout Creek during a rupture last week is expected to reach the upper Hillsborough River today, city officials said.

High levels of bacteria have been detected in the Hillsborough River just north of E Fletcher Avenue, officials said.

A sewer main ruptured during construction along Bruce B. Downs Boulevard last week.

Officials are posting signs warning of high levels of fecal coliform at river entry points near Fletcher Avenue.

The city said the public will be informed when the water returns to safe levels for swimming, wading or fishing.
