Spring Hill sinkhole mostly filled, not expected to threaten homes

SPRING HILL — A sinkhole that opened up Thursday afternoon on Lynnhaven Road during sinkhole repair work had mostly been filled Friday and is not expected to threaten nearby homes.

The hole, near 10122 Lynnhaven Road, was roughly 20 to 25 feet wide and about 20 feet deep, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office said that it did not pose a threat to any structure and that no one was injured.

The home at that address, which has had sinkhole activity confirmed in the past, was not occupied and had a "for sale" sign in the front yard.

An employee for Advanced Pier Technology said he and his crew had been stabilizing the foundation of the house Thursday afternoon when they noticed a hole was forming. They covered the hole and spent Friday pumping grout into the ground.
