Officer dies at home from medical problem
A police officer unexpectedly died Monday morning just as he was leaving for work, officials said.
John B. Letcher, a 46-year-old burglary detective, suddenly collapsed and suffered a medical event at his home, police said. He was later pronounced dead.
Letcher joined the Police Department as a cadet in February 1989 and became a sworn officer in September 1990. The agency is assisting Letcher's family, a spokesman said.
