St. Petersburg police believe man drowned near Bright Waters Circle Northeast

ST PETERSBURG — A 45-year-old man found floating in the water near the mouth of Coffee Pot Bayou is believed to have drowned, according to St. Petersburg police.

A nearby resident saw a body floating in the water and called for help around 2:15 p.m. Friday. The St. Petersburg Police Marine Patrol Unit later removed the body from the water.

The man was identified as Frankie Earl Duckworth, of 1044 10th Avenue S. Duckworth was fishing somewhere along North Shore Drive Northeast Thursday around 3 p.m., relatives told police, but never returned home.

The body showed no signs of trauma, police said.

Detectives are treating the case as a drowning death.
