TAMPA — State troopers and Hillsborough County combined efforts to stop a wrong-way driver on the Veterans Expressway early Wednesday.
Maria Bolivar, 31, of Oldsmar faces charges of DUI and driving on the wrong side of a divided highway.
Around 1:22 a.m., state troopers received reports from sheriff's deputies that a car had been seen driving north in the southbound lanes of State Road 589 near Gunn Highway. A trooper patrolling the area pulled to the shoulder near the Mile 16 marker, where he soon saw Bolivar driving a 2012 Nissan SUV driving the wrong way.
He pulled Bolivar over just before 1:30 a.m. and found her "extremely intoxicated and disoriented," according to FHP reports. Bolivar reportedly told the trooper she was headed home to Oldsmar from a bar along MacDill Avenue.
Bolivar was delivered to the Hillsborough County Jail, where she refused a breath test. She is being held on $500 bail.
