TAMPA — Tampa police arrested a suspect Sunday in a weekend shooting that wounded a man in South Tampa.

About 9:20 p.m. Saturday, an argument between two groups escalated when the man was shot five times in the chest in a wooded area at 6225 Martindale Ave., Tampa police said. Acquaintances drove him a few blocks away to MacDill Avenue and Interbay Boulevard, where police were called.

The victim, 19-year-old Andrew Leon Richards, was taken to a hospital, where police said he was in serious condition.

Police arrested the suspected shooter in Brandon. Jonathan Xavier Torres, 19, was charged with attempted felony murder and booked in Hillsborough County jail.
