Swimmer rescued from Clearwater Pass

CLEARWATER BEACH — A 71-year-old swimmer in distress was rescued this morning from Clearwater Pass near the Sand Key Bridge.

The woman, who was not identified, was taken by ambulance to Morton Plant Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, according to officials with Clearwater Fire & Rescue.

Two men who noticed the woman was having trouble jumped into the water to assist her, officials said.

The incident happened around 11 a.m.
