The ball might've dropped, but the temperature sure didn't.
New Year's Day begins with some dense fog that will quickly dissipate after sunrise as temperatures continue to crest at values well above normal.
The normal temperature for this time of year is 70 degrees, but the Tampa Bay area will pass the 80-degree mark for most of the week. Tuesday's high should be around 82, just a few degrees shy of the 86-degree record set in 1991.
According to the National Weather Service, it'll continue to be hot and dry through Friday when a cold front brings increased chance of rain in the evening. Temperatures will quickly dip into the mid 60s on Saturday and the rain will clear, then things will start to warm again Sunday as temps climb back into the 70s.
