TAMPA — A 27-year-old Tampa man died early Sunday after he drifted into the path of a semitrailer truck, drove off the road and caused that truck to roll onto his pickup truck, authorities said.
Gregorio Feliz was driving south on Interstate 75 near Bruce B. Downs Boulevard around 4 a.m. For some reason, he drifted into the middle lane, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
His 1994 Isuzu pickup swiped the semi, driven by 54-year-old Juan Esquivel, and both vehicles drove onto the grassy shoulder, authorities said. The semi then overturned and landed on top of the pickup.
Feliz died at the scene, troopers said. Esquivel and his passenger, 61-year-old Zaragoza William Alvarez, both of Tampa, suffered only minor injuries.
An investigation was ongoing.
