A Tampa man was arrested early Sunday after he struck and killed a pedestrian, left the scene, and then called 911 to turn himself in.
According to the Tampa Police Department, Therese Nicole Ingram, 45 and of Tampa, was walking along Nebraska Avenue at the intersection of E. 23rd Avenue when, at approximately 3:46 a.m., a car driven by Ruell Calvin Thompson, 22, struck and killed her,
The preliminary investigation indicated the car was traveling at an excessive speed, which contributed to the crash and the fatality.
Roughly 19 minutes after the crash, driver Thompson called 911 to report that he struck someone on Nebraska Avenue.
Tampa Police arranged to meet Thompson, and the subsequent investigation led to his arrest.
Thompson has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash with a death and DUI manslaughter pending the result of a blood alcohol test.
