TAMPA — Around 8:30 Friday morning, Tampa police took a call reporting a python lurking on a street corner near east Tampa.
Officers David Mogilewicz and John Nelson arrived and found the snake near a fence at the intersection of 34th Street and 31st Avenue, just south of a day care center.
Mogilewicz said they were able to get control of the python by pinning its head with a section of PVC pipe and scooping it into a pillowcase. "It was just sitting there," Mogilewicz said.
So, what's next for the snake? "They're working on that," Mogilewicz said. "One of our detectives is a collector of snakes, and it might go to him" for the time being, he speculated, until the department can work out a more permanent solution.
