TAMPA — Police say they have found the woman who left Tampa General Hospital without knowing she had tuberculosis.
Sarah Williams, 53, was at the hospital Saturday. She tested positive for tuberculosis, police said, but against the advice of doctors left the hospital before she received the test results.
Tuberculosis is a potentially serious infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs. The bacteria that cause the disease are spread through tiny droplets released into the air by coughs and sneezes, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Tampa police were searching for Williams, who is homeless, since the weekend.
Police found her Tuesday evening at S Dale Mabry Highway and Inman Avenue and called for an ambulance. She is now back at Tampa General, police said.
