Teacher critically injured in crash

TAMPA — Nicole Holman, a 27-year-old high school biology teacher, is supposed to get married on St. Patrick's Day.

But that date is now in doubt after she was badly injured Monday when her motorcycle and a pickup truck collided.

She was in critical condition Tuesday at Tampa General Hospital.

Holman is in her first year at Hillsborough High School, where she teaches advanced placement biology, biology honors and a zoology elective, said fellow teacher Joe Humphrey. She also coaches the girl's swim team.

"You wouldn't know she's only been here for a few months based on the way people feel about her," he said. "Kids are having a pretty rough time today," he said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said pickup truck driver Edward Moody Brown, 43, of Plant City, turned in front of Holman's motorcycle Monday morning on U.S. 92 near Falkenburg Road.

The crash is being investigated.
