Thousands in St. Petersburg briefly lose power Tuesday afternoon

ST. PETERSBURG—About 3,500 downtown customers were briefly without electricity Tuesday afternoon after a tree limb took out a power line.

Duke Energy Spokesman Sterling Ivey said customers were without power for about 20 minutes before it was restored just before 1 p.m. A tree limb from a cutting service dropped on a line, Ivey said, and the outage occurred while the company could route it through another line.

The outages also affected several traffic signals in the area, police said, including one at 4th Avenue North and 4th Street North where a vehicle hit a pole.
