BRANDON —A 3-year-old boy died Tuesday after his father accidentally ran him over with the family's SUV in a Waffle House parking lot, deputies said.

The incident took place at about 9:45 p.m. as the family was leaving the Waffle House location at 1412 State Road 60, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The mother and father of Jeremiah Rios each mistakenly believed that the other had placed the boy inside their 2007 Chevy Tahoe. The father, Guillermo Junior Montoya Rios. 29, of Brandon, started to drive away when the Tahoe's right front tire struck the boy, causing severe head injuries.

Jeremiah was pronounced dead at Brandon Regional Hospital.

Deputies said neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the incident. The Sheriff’s Office did not release any other information about the incident.
