APOLLO BEACH — Two canoeists are safe after being stranded off the coast of Apollo Beach Friday night, according to the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The two men rented a canoe at MacDill Air Force Base earlier on Friday, but got lost amid cold temperatures and high winds, FWCC spokesman Baryl Martin said.
FWCC officers answered a call from the U.S. Coast Guard to search for the missing boaters. They were located at about 8 p.m., Martin said. It was unclear Saturday how long they had been lost.
The two men were escorted to safety, checked by emergency crews and released with no injuries, Martin said.
