Violent crime continues decline in Hillsborough

TAMPA — Crime is down another 15.5 percent in unincorporated Hillsborough County, according to the state's Uniform Crime Report released Wednesday.

Homicides dropped 22 percent, from 36 cases in 2010 to 28 in 2011. Violent crime reached its lowest level since 1985, according to the report.

The Sheriff's Office attributes the steady drop to proactive policing and alert citizens reporting suspicious activity.
