Woman arrested after malnourished dog found in Ruskin

Dog owner charged with animal cruelty

A Ruskin woman faces a felony animal cruelty charge after a malnourished pit bull was found chained to a tree Thursday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

The dog was so thin that many of its bones were visible. Deputies learned the dog had not been given food, water or shelter for up to a week.

Its owner, Maria Del Rodriguez Alvarado, 38, was booked into the Orient Road Jail and held on $2,000 bail.

The dog, found at a home in the 300 block of NW First Street, was taken by county Animal Services, the Sheriff's Office said.
