SEMINOLE — A Seminole woman was seriously injured after her scooter collided with a car Wednesday afternoon, Pinellas sheriff's deputies said.

The crash happened about 1:30 p.m. at Bay Pines Boulevard and 94th Street N, deputies said.

Sheila Simpson, 53, was westbound on Bay Pines Boulevard on her Astro scooter when she collided with a 1989 Plymouth Acclaim that was making a left turn onto 94th Street.

The impact of the collision sent Simpson under the vehicle, which was driven by John Ferrante, 81, of St. Petersburg. Simpson was dragged about 25 feet, deputies said.

Simpson, who was not wearing a helmet, was badly injured but able to talk to paramedics at the scene. She was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where she was in serious condition, deputies said.

Ferrante was not hurt. Deputies said they have not assigned fault in the crash, but are still investigating.
