Smithfield, N.Y., residents sort through debris Wednesday after their homes were destroyed by a storm Tuesday night. The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado destroyed the homes in upstate New York where five people were killed, including a 4-month-old girl. Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley said that four homes were destroyed and numerous others were damaged. One two-story home was blown hundreds of feet before landing on an unoccupied house, he said. In Manchester, Md., a tree fell at the River Valley Ranch summer camp, killing one child and injuring six others headed to a shelter. Tornadoes also touched down in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
