Bishop Robert Lynch released from hospital after health scare

ST. PETERSBURG — Bishop Robert N. Lynch, head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg, has been discharged from the hospital where he had been treated for more than a month.

Lynch, 68, underwent surgery on July 27 to remove a suspicious polyp in his colon. He was rushed into a second surgery Aug. 6 after developing sepsis, a bacterial infection in the bloodstream.

Writing in his most recent blog, Lynch said tests reveal that he is cancer-free.

Lynch was consecrated bishop of the diocese in January 1996. The diocese spans Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.
