Lent sacrifices through the eyes of a child

Christians across the bay area observed Ash Wednesday, marking the first day of a 40-day season of prayer and fasting known as Lent. A fourth-grader in Eileen Orsi's class at St. Raphael's Catholic School in St. Petersburg summed it up: "You have to give something up for Christ because he died for us," said Abigail Knepprath, who is already missing Instagram after giving up her iPod Touch and soda. Classmate Gabby Marshall gave up a Kindle, soda, candy and Instagram.

Meanwhile, Skycrest United Methodist Church in Clearwater offered driveup or walkup "ashes to go" for about 25 people in a hurry to get an ash mark on their foreheads.
