St. Thomas welcomes new rector

A Celebration of New Ministry will be held Sunday for the Rev. John C. Suhar, the new rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg. Bishop Dabney T. Smith of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida will lead the 4 p.m. service.

Suhar has been associated with St. Thomas Episcopal, 1200 Snell Isle Blvd. NE, since 1998, arriving to begin the process of becoming an Episcopal priest. He left St. Thomas in 2002 to attend Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va., and graduated in 2005. He returned to the Snell Isle church as associate priest. In 2011, he was named priest-in-charge.

Suhar, 62, retired in 1998 from the U.S. Air Force, where he was a lawyer in the Judge Advocate General's Department.

Pipe organ concert planned Feb. 10

The annual Art For Faith's Sake concert series at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Missouri Ave., Clearwater, will feature a pipe organ concert with a young German organ virtuoso, Felix Hell, at 3 p.m. Feb. 10. The free concert will feature the 51-rank Austin pipe organ.
