Shooting time line
6:58 a.m.
An undercover St. Petersburg detective, a deputy U.S. marshal and a Pinellas sheriff's deputy arrive at 3734 28th Ave. S to interview a relative of Hydra Lacy Jr., who is wanted on a warrant charging him with failing to appear in court on an aggravated battery charge.
Shortly after 7
A woman in the house tells authorities Hydra Lacy Jr. is in the attic and is likely armed.
7:07 a.m.
Officers call for backup. Sgt. Tom Baitinger and K-9 Officer Jeffrey Yaslowitz respond. Yaslowitz and the deputy marshal position themselves near the attic entrance and challenge Lacy to surrender.
7:29 a.m.
Gunfire breaks out. Yaslowitz and the deputy marshal are shot. Yaslowitz is wounded in the attic. The marshal tumbles out of the attic and to the floor. Calls go out: Officer down.
Minutes later
Wearing helmets and carrying ballistics shields, police attempt a rescue. Baitinger is hit by a bullet fired through the ceiling. He and the marshal are removed from the house and taken to Bayfront Medical Center. Officials evacuate the neighborhood.
About 8:15 a.m.
SWAT team officers and other law enforcement agencies converge on the home. Negotiators urge Lacy to surrender, but he refuses.
9:25 a.m.
A barrage of gunfire and tear gas pops are heard as authorities try to rescue Yaslowitz.
9:30 a.m.
Yaslowitz is removed and transported to Bayfront Medical Center with a surgeon in the ambulance.
11:10 a.m.
Police Chief Chuck Harmon confirms the deaths of two police officers during a news conference at Bayfront Medical Center. "Our community has suffered a loss today," he said.
1:30 p.m.
Authorities begin tearing down walls of the Lacy home, because they think he is still inside.
2:05 p.m.
At least one body of a fallen officer is loaded into a van at Bayfront Medical Center. Officers line up and salute the van as it pulls away from the hospital en route to the Medical Examiner's Office.
2:15 p.m.
Hydra Lacy Jr. is found dead inside the home.
About 4 p.m.
Police Chief Chuck Harmon holds another news conference to officially release the names of the two dead officers and laud their service.
10 p.m.
After hours of demolition, crews finish depositing the remains of the house at 3734 28th Ave. S into city dump trucks, which will take the material to an undisclosed location to be examined for evidence.
