Shooting victims get help from sheriff's deputy in Brandon

Brandon

Hed goes right about here

Two people were hospitalized Friday night with gunshot wounds after a driver pulled up a deputy and tumbled out of his vehicle in Brandon, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

A patrol deputy was on a traffic stop at U.S. 301 and Causeway Boulevard when a truck came up behind him. The driver fell out of his vehicle and onto the street, sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon said. The driver had two gunshot wounds to the chest. His passenger had been shot in the arm, the Sheriff's Office said.

The two were in serious condition at Tampa-area hospitals late Friday. Investigators believe the shooting happened close by and may have been drug related, according to the Sheriff's Office said.
