Temperatures near mid 90s as June heat wave continues

Is it really supposed to be this hot? In June?

Temperatures around the Tampa Bay area are expected to climb again into the 90s along the coast, and the mid 90s further inland.

Temperatures this week have been running about 4 or 5 degrees above normal.

The record high for today is 96, set in 1993.

But relief must be coming soon, right?

"It doesn't look like we are going to have any," said Bay News Nine meteorologist Juli Marquez. "It may be closer to normal by the weekend in a few spots, but it looks like we are pretty much going to be in the low 90s" through the week.

The unseasonable warmth is the result of strong easterly winds that are holding back the cooler sea breezes off the Gulf of Mexico.
