TPD: 9-year-old boy shot in arm as friends play with gun

TAMPA — A 9-year-old boy was in stable condition after getting accidentally shot in the arm as he and two other boys played with a gun Friday, authorities said.

The boys, whose names were not released, were standing in the area of Chestnut Street and N Oregon Avenue about 6:15 p.m. when one of them pulled out a gun. As the boys "examined" the gun, police said, it discharged, shooting one of them in the forearm. The victim was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition Friday evening, police said.

There were "conflicting stories" about the chain of events, police said, and officers were still looking for the boy who was holding the gun when it went off Friday evening to interview him.
