Bicyclist fatally struck by car on ramp to I-75 in Brandon

A Valrico bicyclist was killed Tuesday night when he was struck by a vehicle at the entrance ramp from State Road 60 to Interstate 75 in Brandon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Brandi West, 23, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala on the northbound ramp to I-75 just after 7 p.m. when she failed to yield the right of way to an unidentified bicyclist who was crossing southbound on the ramp in a marked crosswalk.

The impact caused the 23-year-old victim to be thrown from the bicycle, landing on the shoulder of the ramp, FHP said.

The bicyclist died at the scene, FHP said. West and a passenger were not injured.
