Advance sales strong as Megabus launch date in Tampa approaches

Advance sales are going strong for the Megabus, the new city-to-city express bus service launching Thursday out of downtown Tampa.

At least one of the first-week, $1-only trips has already sold out — the one set for 9:15 a.m. Friday from Tampa to Miami.

"We're very happy with the reservations we're getting, both from people going from Tampa to Miami or Orlando, and also people going from Miami or Orlando to Tampa," said Megabus vice president of marketing Mike Alvich.

"So far, I think Florida is doing as well as any of the other hubs we've opened."

The 81-seat, double-decker buses will run six daily arrivals and departures from the Marion Transit Center at 1211 N Marion St.

Until May 22, all fares will be $1 plus a reservation fee of $1.50. After that, the Megabus will continue offering a limited number of $1 fares daily on every bus, with prices rising incrementally as buses fill and the departure date approaches.
