TAMPA — Hours before this morning's rush hour, the Platt Street Bridge leading to downtown Tampa will close for a renovation expected to take 105 days.
That means the 34,000 drivers who cross the drawbridge on an average day must find another way to go downtown.
While electronic signs, community meetings and news stories have been warning drivers of the closure, police still expect traffic jams, particularly affecting Davis Islands and Tampa General Hospital and streets in the Hyde Park area.
So officials suggest you think about the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, Kennedy Boulevard or roads farther away than that.
