Holiday events begin, annual traffic snarls follow

A few favorite holiday events are gearing up and that means impact to traffic, starting with the annual Times Turkey Trot, which will temporarily close streets Thanksgiving morning in Clearwater beginning at 6 a.m. until approximately noon. The following street closures will be in effect:

Arcturas Avenue from Druid Road to Gulf to Bay Boulevard; Druid Road from Hercules Avenue to Arcturas Avenue; Druid Road from Lake Avenue to Arcturas Avenue; Eastfield Drive from Nursery Road to Lakeview Road; Fairlane Drive from Keene Road to Imperial Drive; Hercules Avenue from Lakeview Road to Druid Road; Imperial Drive from Fairlane Drive to McMullen Road; Keene Road from Gulf to Bay Boulevard to Nursery Road; Keene Road from Nursery Road to Fairlane Drive; Lake Avenue from McMullen Road to Druid Road; Lakeview Road from Eastfield Drive to Hercules Avenue; Magnolia Drive from Keene Road to Wellington Drive; McMullen Road from Imperial Drive to Lake Avenue; Nursery Road from Keene Road to Eastfield Drive; Wellington Drive from Magnolia Drive to Druid Road.

In addition to the lane closures, motorists should be prepared for delays and congestion around the race course and the race hub at Clearwater High School. Both Clearwater and Largo police departments will be on hand to ensure safety.

Lights of Lake Park Estates

The annual Lake Park Estates neighborhood holiday lights display begins Nov. 24 and will continue nightly from 6 to 11 p.m. through Dec. 31. This popular 3-mile route draws heavy traffic entering and exiting the neighborhood so be prepared for delays and congestion in the area, which borders Bryan Dairy Road and Starkey Road. Barricade watch

• Readers have inquired about the work that began this summer on 66th Street N. This construction work will enhance the openings of the medians along 66th Street, which is also as state road (State Road 693). Construction will ultimately stretch from Pasadena Avenue to 30th Avenue N at the following locations: Fourth Avenue N, Dartmouth Avenue, Eighth Avenue N, 10th Avenue N, 18th Avenue N, Crosswinds Center, 22nd Avenue N, and Tyrone Corners. The DOT project is costing $654,248 and is scheduled to be completed sometime in the spring of 2018.

• In Largo, underground storm water drainage improvement work that began last week affecting 137th Lane, 138th Lane, and 137th Street through 139th Street has closed these streets to through traffic with local and emergency access only through the duration of the construction, which is scheduled to last until December 2018.
