TAMPA — A new elevated toll road connecting Interstate 4 to the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway opened Monday morning and traffic was flowing smoothly, officials said.
"It's been a long time coming, and I'm glad it's finally open,'' said John McShaffrey, a spokesman for the Florida Department of Transportation.
No major problems were reported as the ramps opened.
Although the connector will welcome vehicle traffic, the $425 million project is not complete.
Substantial work, including side streets, cross streets and landscaping, still needs to be done over the next few months.
