LARGO — Belcher Road was partially opened in both directions Thursday.
The road had been closed since a water main broke a couple days before Christmas. Thousands were under a boil water notice, which was lifted Sunday.
One lane in both directions on Belcher, between East Bay Drive and Ulmerton Road, was opened at 2:45 p.m. and should stay open for the duration of the repair work.
The damaged section of the 48-inch pipe was removed and a new section installed. A leak was discovered during pressure testing of the new section, preventing repairs from being completed.
Water service has been restored to all customers through temporary water connections and no further boil water notices are expected, officials said.
After working around the clock, crews will take a break and resume repairs Monday morning. The leaking section of pipe will remain isolated until the leak is repaired.
Officials urged motorists be careful as they travel through the construction zone.
