Crash on Tampa's southbound I-275 causes long backup

TAMPA — A noontime crash on southbound Interstate 275 at the Ashley Drive exit to downtown Tampa had traffic backed up for miles.

Authorities said about 12:30 p.m. that only the left lane of the interstate near Exit 44 is blocked but that the traffic backup was reaching Interstate 4. About a half hour later, it was starting to ease but remained congested.

Wednesday morning's steady rain has caused some spotty street flooding and made roads slick. Electronic message boards were reminding highway drivers to turn on their headlights.
