I-275 revamp spells end to a Dale Mabry exit

TAMPA — The daily logjam on southbound Interstate 275 will add another complication Wednesday morning.

Starting at 5 a.m., Dale Mabry Highway will have only one exit from the southbound interstate lanes, according to the Department of Transportation.

The 6,000 drivers every day who used Exit 41A for southbound Dale Mabry will now share an exit with the 6,700 daily drivers who use Exit 41B for the northbound lanes.

Officials say the new single exit — renamed 41A/B — will have two turn lanes for each direction.

Closing Exit 41A permanently is part of a $215 million project to rebuild the southbound lanes of I-275 from the Hillsborough River to the area near State Road 60. When complete, the DOT says, there will be four through-lanes, a flatter roadway and improved interchanges.

Construction is expected to be complete in late 2015, with landscaping going on later, and has already had caused traffic shifts at the Howard/Armenia and Himes avenues exits.
