New exit for Tampa airport opens on I-275
TAMPA — The Tampa International Airport exit will be about a half-mile sooner for drivers coming north off the Howard Frankland Bridge starting today.
Crews have worked a year to combine the exits from Interstate 275 northbound to both Kennedy Boulevard and Tampa International. The project was undertaken because drivers had a tendency to weave in and out of the lanes to get to the airport.
The new exit should be open by 5 a.m., weather permitting. If drivers miss it, the next exit leading to the airport is about a half-mile away at Lois Avenue.
Crews have to finish work on barrier walls, add signs and clean up. They should be done by November.
