When will summer school be starting up this year? I know last year we noticed school zones active during the summer months all over the county. Does summer school run all summer long? It would be nice to have a break from the school-zone crawl during morning rush hour, even if it's for a little while.

The Pinellas County School District's Summer Bridge programs will run Mondays through Thursdays from June 16 to July 23. Motorists should expect to see students and parents in school zones areas from approximately 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Students from kindergarten to fourth grade will attend at the following elementary schools: Belcher Elementary, Belleair Elementary, Curlew Creek Elementary, Dunedin Elementary, San Jose Elementary, Skycrest Elementary and Tarpon Springs Elementary.
The following middle schools will be active: Bay Point, Dunedin, John Hopkins, Largo, Madeira Beach Fundamental, Meadowlawn, Morgan Fitzgerald, Oak Grove, Osceola, Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park, Safety Harbor, Seminole, Tarpon Springs, Thurgood Marshall Fundamental, and Tyrone.
And the following high schools will be active: Bayside, Boca Ciega, Clearwater, Countryside, Dixie Hollins, Dunedin, East Lake, Gibbs, Lakewood, Largo, Northeast, Osceola Fundamental, Pinellas Gulf Coast Academy, Pinellas Park, Pinellas Secondary, Seminole, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs, and Palm Harbor University.
Voluntary preschool for 4- and 5-year-olds began this week and will run through Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following schools: Blanton, Campbell Park, Dunedin, Eisenhower, Fairmount Park, High Point, Kings Highway, Maximo, Melrose, Ponce de Leon, Ridgecrest, and Tarpon Springs.
And keep in mind that students will be on and around campuses for other activities throughout the summer such as band and football practice; the best rule of the road is to use caution.
Barricade watch
•Work on storm pipes, curbing, and driveway and road widening at 88th Way N and south of 100th Avenue N and north of 100th Way N is scheduled to be wrapped up in late July.

•In Dunedin, a state Department of Transportation project to add sidewalks and some repaving is scheduled to begin this month. The project will affect a little over a 1-mile stretch of Alt. U.S. 19 (State Road 595) between Curlew Road and Whisper Lake Road. Lane closures may occur at night from 8:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. The $2.8 million project is expected to be finished by the end of 2015, according to the DOT, but weather is always a factor in completion schedules.
•In north Pinellas County, sidewalk upgrade work along 14th Street from Tampa Road to Indiana Avenue that began last week is scheduled to last until early August, with intermittent lane closures and delays. Motorists should be prepared for flagging personnel in the roadway.
