Tampa reopens some Ashley Drive lanes as railroad project moves ahead of schedule

TAMPA — A railroad construction project clogging downtown traffic is moving ahead of schedule as crews reopened two southbound lanes and one northbound lane of Ashley Drive Friday at Polk Street.

City officials anticipate that all lanes of Ashley will reopen early next week.

CSX is replacing tracks along Polk Street in downtown Tampa, prompting the closure of Ashley Drive on May 7 for what was scheduled to be a three-week project. Southbound traffic was being detoured to Tampa Street using Cass Street, while northbound traffic was being detoured to Florida Avenue using Madison Street.
